Mike Kennedy, head of Barrie School said the students were quarantined in their rooms in the hotel so that if they are contaminated by the AH1N1 virus they cannot victimize other people. Officials said they are so worried these students might be exposed to the virus while on travel. He said one of the passengers on said flight had gotten ill and the school kids were only several seats from said passenger.

Kennedy said although the students were quarantined but they were allowed to open doors and also sit on the doorways while talking with each other. He said the students will be released soon, after the period specified by authorities. Chinese officials have ensured the parents the students were treated as pleasant as possible. In fact, fruits and flowers were delivered to their rooms and they were also provided with a choir group that entertained them.

Kennedy said the students are already “bored and frustrated” but the people should be protected since they came from a trip abroad.
